Careers

Twenty people. We're hiring the next few.

Orchords is a small, independent, remote-first company. We hire across engineering, design, product, marketing, and operations. The team you'll join is small enough that your work is visible from day one and large enough that someone else has probably already solved the hard parts of the problem.

What we offer

Minimum requirements — for every role

We hold every candidate — engineer, designer, marketer, operations, support — to the same baseline. It keeps our hiring fair and our team honest about the craft.

A. Active GitHub Certifications:

  • GitHub Foundations — the baseline for working on our platform.
  • GitHub Actions — the CI/CD we ship through every day.
  • GitHub Security — the way we think about secrets, code review, and supply chain.
  • GitHub Administration — the org-level practices that keep us safe and tidy.
  • GitHub Copilot — the way we use AI in our workflow responsibly.

Yes, this includes marketers and operations roles. We share the same platform, the same code review culture, and the same accountability for the work we put out.

B. Working understanding of relevant ISO standards:

You don't need to be a lead auditor. You need to be able to read the standard, apply its terminology, and use it as the vocabulary for your craft.

For everyone

  • ISO 9001 — Quality Management Systems. The vocabulary for any process work.
  • ISO/IEC 27001 — Information Security Management. The baseline for handling any user data.

Engineers & technical roles

  • ISO/IEC 27002 — the control set that backs 27001 (access control, crypto, logging).
  • ISO/IEC 27017 — security controls for cloud services.
  • ISO/IEC 27018 — PII protection in public clouds.
  • ISO/IEC 25010 — the eight software product quality characteristics (functional suitability, performance, security, maintainability, …).
  • ISO/IEC 20000-1 — IT service management, the ITIL cousin.

Designers

  • ISO 9241 — ergonomics of human-system interaction. The full part-210 set covers human-centred design.
  • ISO 14915 — ergonomics for multimedia user interfaces.
  • ISO/IEC 25010 — usability as a first-class software quality attribute.
  • ISO 9001 — design as a controlled process.

Marketing & communications

  • ISO 9001 — claim quality, content approval, change control.
  • ISO 14001 — environmental management, so sustainability claims are defensible.
  • ISO 26000 — social responsibility, the language we use when we talk about the studio.
  • ISO/IEC 27001 — because marketing handles lists, leads, and personal data.

Operations & support

  • ISO 31000 — risk management. How we think about anything that could go wrong.
  • ISO 22301 — business continuity management.
  • ISO 45001 — occupational health and safety for the team.
  • ISO 9001 — quality as a managed, measured practice.

C. Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) literacy:

Every role touches process documentation. The minimum is to be able to do all three of these without supervision.

  • Read an SOP. Understand its hierarchy (policy → procedure → work instruction), version, owner, approval, and the controls it maps to in ISO 9001 §7.5 or ISO/IEC 27001 §7.5.
  • Write an SOP. Produce a procedure with a clear purpose, scope, responsibilities, step-by-step actions, references, and a revision history — following the documented-information requirements of ISO 9001.
  • Edit an SOP. Apply change control: version bump, change-log entry, re-approval, and re-publication. Reference the new revision in any dependent work.

Free public SOP templates and examples you can study: ISO 9001 documented information guide, ISO's quality-management templates, ISO/IEC 27002 control catalogue, and the open ISO 9001 online browsing platform.

How we interview

Every candidate is interviewed live. The session includes short quizzes on your GitHub certifications, the ISO standards above, and a small SOP exercise (read / draft / edit). We share the rubric beforehand so there are no surprises, and the whole interview usually fits in 45–60 minutes.

Open roles

We're not maintaining a public job board right now. If you're a strong generalist in any of the disciplines above and you'd like to work with us, use the Careers & hiring chat category. Tell us what you'd want to do here and a short note on what you've already shipped. We read everything.
